Old Man Markley, Strung Out, Pennywise, Live Music Hall, Cologne, May 9th 2013
In my last blog post I had a little rant about the quality of lighting at the show in Trier. After the show I went to last night I have to reconsider. I really appreciate that whoever was responsible for the lighting in Trier, he/she tried to get something cool going. It failed in some aspects, badly actually, but somebody took the initiative and time to care about light. Thank you. Let’s work out the shortcomings and be friends. However, the light person at Live Music Hall last night can go fuck himself. You failed even at trying. There’s like a million lights in that venue. And all you found were the red ones, on the lowest setting. Seriously? Is that the quality of lighting at a professional 1500 capacity venue in 2013? It’s ridiculous. It’s a rare occasion that a) the opening band has a much (!) better light than the headliner and b) that the drummer is the best lit person on stage. Both happened. I’m glad I actually came to see Old Man Markley, so I got some good images. The complete lack of light ruined the moment when Strung Out’s bass player struck a pose, but there was no light to capture it. And I got about three useable (I’m not even claiming good) images of Pennywise. Nicely done.
Thanks to Annie and all of OMM for getting me a photo pass and for hanging out before the show. Hope to see you again soon.
