Franzi went on a vacation and spending time in the sun brought out her freckles. So we had to take some headshots. And if you play a little with the sliders in Photoshop, you can enhance them quite dramatically.
I have fallen behind posting the project photos. But the good news is: We did more session, I’ve just been too lazy, too unmotivated to do the editing and publishing. I guess this is the better version than doing much editing over taking photos, right? Expect more postings soon as I’m catching up.
Anyway: Franzi suggested doing something with confetti. I bought 4 bags, and we only ended up using one. I guess there will be more shenanigans some day. Continue reading
I’ve owned flashes for a decade now. I never ever ever used the stroboscopic setting before. Time to give it a try. Zime to blackout the room and time to start moving around!
This one wasn’t planned. I tried to get a certain shot, but just couldn’t get it to work. I quit. Then I decided to test something. I already have a light up there, how will it look if I use it as the only light? Let’s find out. Quite happy with these unexpected results: Continue reading
The idea is simple: Throw enough light at the background to make it white. Throw no light at the model to make it black. Enhance contrast. If you do it well enough you get some silhouettes. Continue reading
Every year around this time Germany is covered in yellow rapeseed fields. I’ve always wanted to do a photo shoot there. And so I scouted out a location and we went there. Soo much yellow! Then we waited for the sun to set and give us a dramatic evening light. Continue reading
This week I wanted to try something simple: Just some classic portrait lighting setups. And I wanted to use a particular piece of gear. I have this foldable roundflash (link) that packs really small, so you can easily carry it everywhere. It’s a weird light former, being a little bit of a softbox, a little bit beauty dish, a little bit roundflash – whatever. I used it before, but now I wanted to give it a proper try. Continue reading
Sorry for not posting updates, I have just been lazy. But: The project is still going on, we didn’t miss another week, I just procrastinated the editing and blogging.
So the city of Bonn planted a bunch of cherry trees in some of the streets in the area calling itself “Altstadt”. Every spring these blossom and it looks kinda nice. This has become an actual tourist attraction, ever since photos appeared on the internet. Yep – Bonn is that lame that a couple of nice trees are seen as a big event here. We went with the flow and used it as a background for the that weeks photo shoot.
Over the last weeks we often went to interesting places. The subway, the museum, the bridge. So the surroundings made for a crucial part of the resulting photos. I thought it was time to do the opposite: Get closer, no distractions, just a model, or maybe even just part of her? Continue reading
This was the third time in a row that we went out after dark. Apparently that is the easiest time of the day to find a little time in both our schedules. I sense a pattern here. So we headed into the night to a bridge built by Deutsche Telekom to connect their offices on both sides of a major road. Quite a fancy bridge with lots of lighting and flashing LED boards everywhere. Continue reading
